Renovation and extension of the Swiss Embassy Office, Bogotá, Colombia
2023 – The chancellery is to be renovated and enlarged to combine peripheral offices and working groups in one space. The redesign is to be used to create a workspace that is a meeting place, promotes exchange between units and allows a high degree of flexibility for dynamic workflows and working groups.
The existing substance is to be preserved as much as possible and new sustainable concepts and materials are to be used.

Sō
A table series in collaboration with
tossa
Autumn 2023For some years now, I have been working as an architect on techniques that make it possible to bridge larger spans with short wooden elements.

I am particularly interested in so-called lever beam structures, an archaic structural principle that was mainly used for bridges and roofs in China and Japan. Leonardo da Vinci also used this technique to develop a lightweight wooden dome.

In a lever beam structure, at least three elements lie on top of each other in such a way that one rests on another and in turn serves as a support for another. As only two elements touch each other, the connections between them can be simple. This contrast between simple joints and the complex interplay of parts inspired me to use the lever-rod principle in furniture construction.

In this series of tables, a large number of identical rods support each other and create a rotating basic figure. The simple squared timbers are joined using a further development of a traditional wooden joint and are stabilised by their own weight and that of the table top.

The tables alternate between a sculptural overall form and a dissolution into individual elements and appears different from every perspective thanks to the eccentrically arranged rods. This makes them ideal as the centre of a room.link

Redesign of the square in front of the oratory of Porta Porta, Brissago

2023 – In the course of the renovation of the village centre and the Via Costa di Dentro, the square in front of the oratory is also to be redesigned.

The basic idea is to create a meeting area including recreational areas, circulation areas and parking spaces.Small interventions help to restore the former division of the area into two small connected squares.

Since the morphology has changed completely in the last 30 years, there is an opportunity to show the old traces of some buildings and walls on the new pavement. These traces help to shape and zone the area around the oratory.

A villa with a generous garden will be expanded into a small 'campus' of 14 condominiums of various sizes. Each residential unit has a garden or terrace. The organic composition of the 1970s house will be continued in the five small extension buildings, which will be accessed on the upper floor via porches and balconies. Two cores of stairs with lifts lead to the underground car park. The materials chosen should focus on the relationship with the site and sustainability. The new buildings are two-storey and wooden. The ground floor walls of the buildings flanking the semi-public squares and pathways are made of exposed concrete. One of the units near the cantonal road is intended to accommodate small commercial uses, such as physiotherapy, massage, etc.It is planned to use the villa as a restaurant with guest rooms, complementary to the residential use of the campus. In collaboration with Indro Moretti

	Serengeti
Visitors Centre
Serengeti National Park
Tanzania

2019 – The proposed new Serengeti Visitors Centre (SVC) is located on the grounds of Serengeti in between the Frankfurt Zoological Society pavilion, the recently commissioned Media Centre and the ablution blocks.

Its spatial configuration of the proposed project aims to improve and integrate these existing facilities. At the same time, a clear separation of vehicular traffic and an undisturbed first-hand experience of the local vegetation and climate of Serengeti National Park are achieved.

Similar to the organization of traditional Maasai “Bomas”, a series of small mural structures situated around platforms accommodate the required functions. The platforms are covered by a high canopy

structure with wide eaves, providing shade and, when required, protection from rain.

The wooden canopy roof consists of short interlocking members of local teak wood, that permit transport on small pick-ups and manual assembly on site.

These architectural elements are set in such

way that, in every aspect and perspective, the experience of the impressive natural setting remains the centrepiece.

HCAP Shop
Ambrì Piotta, TI

2021

The Ambrì Piotta Hockey Club is to move into the new arena one mile away from the old legendary Valascia in autumn 2021. This will mark the beginning of a new chapter in the club's over 80-year history. Besides other facilities such as a restaurant and bars, the new arena will also house a fan and hockey shop. Our concept proposes to transfer the identity of the old Valascia into the future in the new arena. To this end, characteristic, recycled components such as stadium seats, wall cladding and façade elements are to serve as reminiscences and evoke memories of the unique atmosphere of the Valascia.

However, it is intended to be a modern and functional shop without nostalgic undertones. Circumferential wooden strips will be mounted in front of a neutral background to accommodate the recycled elements. These, in turn, are to serve as carriers for the merchandising products. This underlying structure allows for a flexible use of the elements, so that the shop can react thematically to events and also serve as an exhibition space.

Bignasco Public Swimming Pool
Bignasco, TI
Competition2021

The elongated shape of the new recreational-tourist centre represents a kind of filter between the landscape and the settlement of Bignasco. It creates a threshold and a new landmark for Bignasco.

The new building is intended to give the use of the indoor swimming pool an independent aspect and a special atmosphere but at the same time to belong to an open and natural space.

The building and its outdoor area are part of the natural space that extends along the Ri Grande from the Maggia waterfall.

In the project, this space is interpreted as a continuum whose topography in the swimming pool area will have to be adapted to the natural course.

To "renaturalise" the artificial topography of the former sports ground, the excavation of the basement will be used. In addition to small hills separating the areas, stones will be placed and local trees such as chestnut, birch and pine trees will be planted to accentuate the whole.

In analogy with the architecture of the area, the building is divided into a solid concrete base and a light wooden superstructure.

The roof is designed as a suspended wooden construction and thus makes optimal use of the properties of wood. This allows the material section of the wooden structure to be reduced to a total of 38 cm.

This campus was designed for the children of the rural environment in northern Tanzania, where the population's way of life is changing from semi-nomadic to rural. The campus contains school buildings, a library, dormitories and outdoor areas such as gardens and a theatre. In accordance with the principles of Montessori teaching, the rooms were designed in a holistic manner so that they fulfil the specific social, functional and climatic requirements.Unlike most conventional classrooms, the rooms are rotated by 45° in the overall structure, so that there are multiple connections between them and to the outside space, and the overhanging roof optimally protects the rooms below from the sun.
The first building was completed in 2023.

	Residence of the Swiss Ambassador
Quito
2017-2019

Renovation and conversion

The house is one of the most important buildings of the post-war modernism in Ecuador and was built in the year 1972 by the famous architect and artist Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño for himself and his family. As part of the overall refurbishment, the residence has been modernized, rebuilt and earthquake-proofed.
The house consists of two parts, each of which has different room types and functions. The public part in the west is a modernistic building with a large saddle roof. In the east this includes a single-storey building with masonry domes and -vaults around an inner courtyard.

In collaboration with arquitectura X, Quito.
